About
Rania ElKalla is a global award winning Egyptian multidisciplinary designer with product & graphic design educational background with an experience in material science and production techniques. She is the founder & CEO of Shell Homage biodegradable materials out of egg and nutshells which resulted from her master research project at The Technical University of Berlin, TU Berlin. Besides her company, she also works as an Industrial Design Lecturer at the German International University – GIU in collaboration with HTW Berlin, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft.
Her key areas of expertise and interest are sustainable Design; sustainable production techniques; material design; and experiential Design. Her work approaches towards integrated Design; visual communication; spatial imagination; experimenting with materials; and applying eclectic sustainable methods or concepts in Industrial Design and negotiating them interdisciplinary in an expanded field of Design.
Her designs are mostly eclectic, derived from different cultures and styles. She likes to merge between different design disciplines. The main aim is to keep on improving, present the best of herself and most authentic version of who she is.
Designers should always remember the word FUN that exists in Function. She tends to design things with humor and interaction with users.
